Cologne Airport is testing hydrogen buses

Cologne/Bonn Airport will be testing a hydrogen-powered bus approved for regular service on the apron until mid-October 2023. It is a model from the Portuguese manufacturer CaetanoBus.

“We are already making the mobility of the future as sustainable as possible today. Climate protection is an essential part of our corporate strategy,” says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “Hydrogen is a future technology that we are increasingly expanding alongside e-mobility. By 2035, we only want to use zero-emission vehicles and equipment on the aprons, and our airport should be climate-neutral by 2045.”

The “H2.City Gold” hydrogen bus has a range of 500 kilometers. The vehicle is equipped with a 180-kilowatt Siemens engine, five hydrogen tanks, a 44-kilowatt-hour battery pack and the 60-kilowatt Toyota fuel cell.
