Corendon Airlines wants to expand more slowly

With over two million passengers in the first eight months of 2024 and an expanded winter schedule offering 600.000 seats to holiday destinations, Corendon Airlines is consolidating its position as a holiday airline in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

The Turkish airline, which will celebrate its 2025th anniversary in 20, is focusing on a growing route network and a stronger sales strategy in order to improve both sales and brand awareness. In addition to Turkey, Corendon also has airline subsidiaries with their own certificates in the Netherlands and Malta.

The positive development so far this year is remarkable: Corendon Airlines recorded more than two million passengers in the period from January to August 2024, an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year. These figures confirm the success of the airline's strategy, which focuses on both classic holiday travel and ethnic flights. Demand for flights to Turkey, Spain, Greece, Morocco and Egypt was particularly strong.

In recent years, Corendon Airlines has paid particular attention to ethnic traffic. These flights serve travelers who fly to Turkey away from the well-known tourist destinations, such as airports on the Black Sea or in the east of the country. To meet the growing demand, the airline has expanded the availability of these flights - a concept that will continue in 2025. The extended flight times are intended to enable the growing number of travelers to fly to their home regions more flexibly and over a longer period of time.

Stronger sales activities and focus on the DACH region

The DACH region is the focus of Corendon Airlines' sales strategy. Since June 2024, Christian Hein has been leading the airline's activities as the new Head of Sales & Marketing. Together with a team in Germany and Turkey, Hein is working to further expand cooperation with tour operators and travel agencies in order to strengthen the airline's presence in this region. These efforts aim to position Corendon as the preferred partner for holiday travel and generate further growth in the coming years.

Hein commented: "Our goal is to expand our cooperation with tour operators and travel agencies. We have already taken the first steps towards this and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months." This approach shows the airline's long-term focus on becoming more firmly anchored in the tourism industry in the DACH region.

Winter flight schedule 2024/2025: Focus on sunny destinations

Corendon Airlines' upcoming winter flight schedule (November 1, 2024 to March 14, 2025) promises travelers attractive offers to popular sunny destinations. With over 600.000 seats from 24 airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the airline offers extensive connections to the Canary Islands, including Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife. Egypt with Marsa Alam and Hurghada is also among the popular destinations, as is Turkey, especially Antalya, which serves as a hub for many travelers from Europe.

The winter flight offer is aimed at both classic holidaymakers who want to escape the cold winter months and ethnic travellers who can use the extended season to visit their home regions. With such an extensive flight program, Corendon Airlines shows its flexibility and understanding of the needs of different passenger groups.

Since less capacity is needed in the cold season than in the summer, Corendon will probably fly eight aircraft for Air India under a wet lease agreement. The cooperation is provisionally limited to the 2024/25 winter flight schedule period.

Outlook for summer 2025: Further growth planned

Corendon Airlines is not satisfied with the success of the winter flight schedule. The airline is already optimistic about the summer of 2025 and is planning an even more extensive route network that will include more than 30 destinations. With over 500 weekly connections in the high season and over two million seats, the airline plans to continue to meet the demand for summer holidays in popular destinations.

What is particularly noteworthy is that Corendon Airlines will fly to 18 airports in Germany – more than any other airline active in the leisure flight segment. In addition, there are four airports in Austria and two in Switzerland, which once again underlines the strong focus on the DACH region. With regard to the botched expansionn, which was intended to be accomplished some time ago, is now to progress much more slowly.

The year 2025 marks a special milestone in the history of Corendon Airlines, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Since its establishment in 2005, the airline has developed from a small holiday airline into a major player in the European aviation market. However, it has also had to pay a hard price, as a large-scale expansion, which was to be achieved mainly with the help of ACMI aircraft, was not successful. This put the group's airlines under considerable pressure.
