Around 500 employees at the Airbus plant in Hamburg-Finkenwerder were quarantined by the local health authority. On Sunday afternoon, the responsible office announced that 21 employees had tested positive so far. According to Airbus, it is still unclear what effects the measure will have on production.

The manufacturer announced that the cause of the outbreak is still being investigated. The Hamburg health authority is also having the samples examined for the new mutations of the coronavirus. However, the first results are not expected until the middle of next week. The office classified the approximately 500 quarantined employees of the manufacturer as first-degree contact persons. There are various protective measures, but it cannot be completely ruled out that there was still contact, for example during breaks.

In an initial reaction, Airbus stated that the effects on production in Hamburg-Finkenwerder are currently being examined. At the moment it cannot be foreseen whether the production rate will have to be further reduced. The aircraft manufacturer employs around 12.000 people in the Hanseatic city.
