Dortmund Airport achieves best result in 25 years

At its recent supervisory board meeting, Dortmund Airport GmbH confirmed its final annual results for 2024. According to an audit by the auditing firm PKF Fasselt Partnerschaft mbB, the airport closed the fiscal year with a loss of €1,8 million. This represents an improvement of €1,8 million compared to the previous year (minus €3,6 million) and marks the best result in the past 25 years. EU EBITDA, the operating result according to the European Commission's airport guidelines, also increased to almost €9 million.

Airport Managing Director Ludger van Bebber also informed the Supervisory Board members about the current passenger development for 2025. The first quarter of 2025 was satisfactory, with growth of approximately 6,5 percent compared to the same period last year. However, with the start of the summer flight schedule, there were changes in the flight offerings: Ryanair withdrew from Dortmund, and Eurowings also reduced its flight offerings. This led to a slight decline in traffic figures in April and May compared to the previous year.

From January to the end of May 2025, a total of around 1,19 million passengers used Dortmund Airport for their travels. The airport thus continues to achieve a small increase in passenger numbers of approximately 1,2 percent compared to the record year of 2024. Management expects positive developments in the coming months. The reasons for this are the upcoming peak travel volume in the summer season and the new Wizz Air routes to Warsaw and Craiova, which have been launched since June. In addition, further frequency increases on existing routes are expected to contribute to the positive development to offset the effects of the airline's adjustments.
