Dortmund Airport is back on track for growth after a slight decline in the second quarter of the year. By September 2023, a total of 2.346.016 passengers had been handled, an increase of 1,3 percent over the previous year. In particular, the summer months of July to September represented the strongest period with 892.488 passengers, with August being the busiest month with over 300.000 travelers.

Airport boss Ludger van Bebber attributes the positive development to the restart of Wizz Air aircraft after technical repairs and the growth of Pegasus flights to Istanbul. The goal of reaching the three million passenger mark in 2023 appears achievable thanks to the upward trend in the third quarter and good forecasts for the remaining months. However, challenges in air traffic continue due to high location costs such as air traffic taxes and approach fees.

For the fourth quarter, the airport expects increased travel waves due to the autumn and Christmas holidays and also announced that the airline DAN AIR will serve the route to Bacău from December 2023.
