Dortmund Airport ended 2024 with a historic record result: 3.132.707 passengers used the airport, which corresponds to an increase of 6,8 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to the pre-Corona year of 2019, passenger volume also grew by 15,2 percent. The fourth quarter in particular stood out with an increase of 27 percent, and October was the strongest month of the year with over 320.000 travelers.
The most frequently used connection was once again the route to Katowice with over 433.000 passengers, followed by Palma de Mallorca and Bucharest. The latter recorded a remarkable growth of 46 percent. Overall, the airport benefited from additional offers such as the expanded Mallorca flights by Condor and new routes to Istanbul and Chişinău.
Wizz Air remained the airport's strongest partner in 2024 with over 2 million passengers, despite temporary restrictions on the route network. At the same time, Ryanair lost importance and announced that it would no longer offer flights from Dortmund from April 2025. In contrast, Wizz Air, Pegasus and Condor are expanding their offerings in 2025, including new destinations such as Warsaw and Antalya.
Dortmund Airport aims to maintain the 2025 million passenger mark by 3, despite the challenges posed by high fees and taxes in German air traffic. Airport boss Ludger van Bebber emphasizes the high demand and relies on strong partnerships and new connections to continue the growth path.
