Dresden and Leipzig airports need fresh money

Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, the holding company of Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports, wants to reorganize itself. The workforce was informed last Thursday about a restructuring plan drawn up by KMPG.

“It confirms that Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG has sustained competitiveness and good future prospects when implementing the restructuring concept,” said MDF AG in a statement. The investments that are due within the next three years could only be made if the shareholders, i.e. the states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, provide fresh capital.

The group of companies is likely to feel the effects of the losses from the Corona years as well as the fact that both airports are still well below pre-crisis volumes. In the 2022 financial year, a deficit of 36,5 million euros was reported.
