On July 3, 2025, the Swiss airline Edelweiss launched its first direct flight from Zurich Airport to the Canadian port city of Halifax. The opening of this new route was marked with a ceremony at Zurich Airport. Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer of Edelweiss, and Rolf Hancock, Vice President of Aviation Development at Zurich Airport, together with the flight crew, symbolically cut a ribbon to officially open the route.
Flights to Halifax will operate every Thursday and Sunday. This seasonal service is scheduled to run until mid-October of this year. Halifax is Edelweiss' third Canadian destination, following Vancouver and Calgary. This underscores the growing importance of the North American market for the Swiss leisure airline, which is continuously expanding its presence in Atlantic Canada.
Patrick Heymann emphasized that Halifax opens up a new, fascinating region of Canada, namely Atlantic Canada. He highlighted the unique blend of maritime charm, untouched nature, and cultural diversity that delights both travelers and nature lovers. This new connection will make Edelweiss' Canada offerings not only more diverse but also more inspiring. Halifax, the capital of the province of Nova Scotia, is known for its vibrant cultural scene, its charming old town, and historic landmarks such as the star-shaped Citadel and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
From Halifax, the region's natural wonders are easily explored, including the spectacular cliffs of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, scenic beaches, and picturesque fishing villages.
