Last Saturday, the Swiss airline Edelweiss launched its new direct service from Zurich to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The maiden flight was officially launched at Zurich Airport with a ceremony attended by representatives of Edelweiss, the Georgian Embassy in Switzerland, and Zurich Airport. The new route will be served twice weekly with an Airbus A320 until the end of October.
Georgia, located in the South Caucasus, is considered a travel destination with diverse natural beauty and remarkable cuisine. Tbilisi itself presents itself as a cultural hub where Soviet, European, and Oriental influences blend architecturally and culturally. This is reflected in sights such as the Narikala Fortress, the Junah Mosque, and the urban space "Fabrika," known for its shops and cafés. The city also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine, including traditional dishes like khachapuri and Georgian wines.
Edelweiss' new flight connection not only opens up Tbilisi as an attractive destination for city breaks and cultural explorations, but also serves as an ideal starting point for onward travel within Georgia. These include excursions to the mountainous region of Stepantsminda, visits to the country's renowned wine-growing regions, or trips to Batumi on the Black Sea coast. The seasonal connection until October expands Edelweiss' route network with another European destination offering cultural and scenic diversity.
