Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) expects a very high passenger volume of approximately 11 passengers during the Easter holidays from April 27 to 1.250.000. At the same time, the first eight security check lanes in Area 1 of Terminal 5 will be put into operation with new CT scanners. This technology will allow travelers to leave electronic devices and liquids in their hand luggage during screening.
The commissioning of the new CT scanners is an important step toward increasing efficiency at BER. According to the airport operator, the upgrade in the southern area of Terminal 1 is expected to increase security screening capacity by 50 percent per hour. The complete upgrade of all screening lanes in Terminal 1 is scheduled to begin in the northern area after the Easter holidays and be completed by fall. Terminal 2 has already been fully equipped with the new technology since the beginning of 2024.
BER expects approximately 82.000 passengers on the first day of the holidays alone, and around 300.000 over the entire Easter weekend. Mediterranean resorts, including Spain, Turkey, Italy, France, and Greece, are traditionally particularly popular destinations. The airport operator recommends that travelers arrive at their respective terminals in good time and follow the instructions provided by their airline. It also points out the possibility of using digital services such as online check-in, Fast Bag Drop, and the free time slot reservation for security checks via "BER Runway" to make the stay at the airport easier.
