Following the recent storms in Austria, the Federal Army has been deployed in Styria and Burgenland since June 9, 2024 to support local emergency services in the clean-up work. In Styria, 34 soldiers are active, building bridges and clearing blockages, primarily in Hartberg and Grafendorf. In Burgenland, 110 soldiers from the 19th Infantry Battalion are deployed in the Unterschützen area to clear cellars of mud and water. Coordination takes place in the operations staff in Oberwart.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner emphasized the importance of rapid intervention and assured that the armed forces will remain in action for as long as necessary. The army has soldiers available around the clock who can be mobilized within a few hours.

The storms caused significant damage in large parts of Austria, including floods, landslides and storm damage. The armed forces are supporting the civilian forces in order to cope with the emergency.
