Austrian Army starts training 14 new military pilots in autumn 2024

Advertising

From September 2024, 14 new military pilots will begin their training with the Austrian Armed Forces. Six of them are already in Phase II of training, while eight more will start Phase I. These initiatives are linked to the recent procurement of aircraft such as the AW169 "Lion", additional Black Hawk helicopters and the C-390 transport aircraft, which will increase the number of training and jobs for military pilots.

The training takes place in three phases. Phase I covers general military and flight training, including language skills and survival training. Phase II, basic military pilot training, lasts 14 months and includes night vision and instrument flights. Phase III focuses on specialized training on specific aircraft and helicopter types.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner emphasizes the importance of training for the future of the air force and praises the willingness of young pilots to take on this responsible task. The next application process for military pilots will take place at the end of January 2025.
