The Federal Prosecutor's Office has begun investigations into a fire in an air freight package in Leipzig in July, which was presumably started by Russia. According to a spokesman for the Karlsruhe authority, the parcels that caught fire in the DHL freight center are being investigated more closely. The Federal Prosecutor General is responsible for crimes directed against the Federal Republic of Germany.

The chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee, Konstantin von Notz, expressed concern about the possibility of targeted sabotage and called for a comprehensive investigation into the background by the security authorities. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had previously reported that Germany had narrowly avoided a plane crash that could have been caused by the fire in the package. The incident was prevented by a delay in the onward flight of the package from the Baltic states, which contained an incendiary device.

The investigations shed light on potential security risks in German air freight traffic and growing concerns about Russian activities abroad.
