Germany: Lockdown without quarantine for Mallorca vacationers

Advertising

German vacationers who travel to Mallorca during the Easter holidays do not have to be in quarantine when they return to Germany. The federal and state governments have agreed that they “expect” the airlines to carry out corona tests before the return flight - that is, still in Spain.

However, there is no binding regulation that would oblige airlines to carry out such tests. The federal-state conference agreed that this was only "expected". Tuifly, Lufthansa, Eurowings and Condor approached Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) yesterday and offered to carry out corona tests before the return flight to Germany. This then advocated acceptance by the federal-state conference.

This saved the Easter season, because, among other things, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and some Prime Ministers are said to have introduced compulsory quarantine for everyone returning from vacation from abroad. Among other things, this was in the draft with which Merkel entered negotiations with the country leaders. Obviously she could not prevail.

In stark contrast to this, Germany is to be sent into an "tightened lockdown". It is believed that closing grocery stores on Maundy Thursday can significantly reduce new infections. The supermarkets are allowed to reopen on Holy Saturday. It is doubtful whether it was taken into account that there could be increased customer frequency in the grocery stores on Wednesday and Saturday next week.
