The rating portal Holidaycheck In a recent analysis, the quality of over 135 hotels near Europe's 30 busiest airports was examined. The study, which takes into account guest reviews, room size, and prices, concludes that the once poor image of airport hotels is largely a thing of the past. The average rating is 4,91 out of 6 stars.
According to HolidayCheck, hotels at airports in northern Italy and Germany perform particularly well. Milan-Malpensa tops the ranking with 5,55 stars, followed by Munich (5,5 stars) and Bergamo (5,47 stars). Other German airports, such as Düsseldorf (5,3 stars) and Frankfurt (5,05 stars), also confirm the positive results. In contrast, hotels in popular city break destinations like Rome , Dublin , and Barcelona received significantly lower ratings.
The HolidayCheck study also compares prices and room sizes. The cheapest overnight stay is in Alicante (€78), while Athens is the most expensive at €433 per night. However, Athens scores points with the most spacious rooms (28 square meters), followed by Düsseldorf (27,5 square meters) and Copenhagen (26,5 square meters). In contrast, Palma de Mallorca (14,2 square meters) and Budapest (16 square meters) offer the smallest rooms.
According to the report, travelers will find the best value for money in Spain and Eastern Europe. For example, Alicante offers rooms for €78 with a 4,78-star rating. German airports position themselves in the premium segment, boasting high ratings and spacious rooms, which, however, translates into higher prices. Travel agency experts recommend hotels such as the Hilton Munich Airport or the Hilton Frankfurt Airport due to their direct access to the terminals, as well as more affordable options like the Motel One at Hamburg Airport or the Intercity Hotel at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
