The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted the Israeli airline Israir preliminary approval to begin flights to the United States. This temporary approval is valid for a period of two years. Israir expressed optimism that it will receive final approval by June of this year.

The airline plans to operate the Tel Aviv-New York route using Airbus A330 aircraft. With this move, Israir expands its route network beyond Europe and the Middle East, opening up a significant transatlantic market. The launch of direct flights between Israel and the East Coast of the United States will offer new travel options for both business and leisure travelers.

Until now, the direct flight connection between Israel and the United States was primarily served by the Israeli airline El Al and various US airlines. Approval for Israir could therefore lead to increased competition on this important route and potentially impact airfares. It remains to be seen whether Israir plans to serve additional destinations in the United States in the future.

The announcement of Israir's plans comes at a time when demand for international air travel is steadily growing. The new connection between Tel Aviv and New York could also further strengthen economic and cultural ties between Israel and the United States.
