Since 2017, Hamburg Airport has been offering passengers at selected airports the ability to check in their luggage at self-service machines. A million suitcases have now been checked in this year.

The airport reports that on average every fourth piece of luggage is checked in via the machines. At peak times, around half of passengers are expected to take advantage of the offer. “At Hamburg Airport we are increasingly relying on technical solutions that make travel planning easier for our passengers and are familiar to them from everyday life. Our baggage machines, for example, are equipped with a touch display and can be operated very intuitively. The fact that we were able to break the million mark today clearly shows how well the offer is being received,” says Mirjam Fröhlich, Head of Terminal and Baggage Management at Hamburg Airport. “I am particularly pleased that, together with our airline partners, we are offering our passengers more comfort through technology.”

The following airlines offer self-service bag drop-off in Hamburg:

  • Air France
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Condor
  • Deutsche Lufthansa
  • the easy family of brands.
  • Finnair
  • Eurowings
