Following the imposition of new EU sanctions, Iranian airlines are canceling their connections to Europe.
The Secretary General of the Iranian Airlines Association, Maghsud Asadi Samani, told the Ilna news agency that "no more Iranian aircraft will fly to Europe." At the beginning of the week, the EU decided on new punitive measures against Iran, which include the delivery of ballistic missiles and drones to Russia. These sanctions particularly affect the state-owned airline Iran Air.
In addition to the freezing of assets, the new sanctions also prohibit the Iran Air fleet from refueling in Europe. Iran Air, one of the few airlines with direct connections between Europe and Iran, is thus severely restricted. Despite high demand for flights to European cities, travelers must now switch to alternative routes, such as via Istanbul or Dubai. Turkey remains an important hub for passengers traveling between Iran and Europe.
