Israel's military has prevented an Iranian plane from landing at Beirut's international airport.
According to Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamijah, the Israeli army contacted the airport control tower and warned against allowing the plane to land. Otherwise, Israel threatened military intervention. The Iranian plane, a cargo flight operated by Qeshm Air, then turned around and returned to Tehran.
An Israeli military spokesman justified the intervention by saying it was to prevent arms transfers to Hezbollah. Israel is closely monitoring Beirut airport to prevent such activities. Unlike neighboring Syria, Lebanon has not yet allowed arms deliveries via civilian airports.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran and their influence on Lebanon, which is considered a transit country for arms deliveries to Hezbollah.
