The Israeli Ministry of Tourism has compiled a list of 22.000 tourists who wish to leave the country under Operation Safe Return. This initiative, originally designed to repatriate Israelis from abroad, is now also being used to assist foreign travelers facing unsafe conditions due to the Israeli-Iranian war.
The Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Danny Shachar, confirmed that many tourists find themselves in a situation of uncertainty and, in some cases, even hardship. Some are staying in the country longer than planned, often under difficult financial and personal circumstances. At the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Iran, there were approximately 40.000 tourists in Israel; currently, the number is down to around 32.000. Some of these travelers have already left for Jordan and Egypt via the land borders, which remain open. The Ministry of Tourism is increasing its presence at these border crossings to provide support.
In addition to the evacuation flights and assistance at the country's borders, the Ministry of Tourism has established a virtual office. This office provides information services to tourists in Israel via digital channels in Hebrew and English. The service is available 24/7 via email, WhatsApp, and the Israel Virtual Tourist Office Facebook page. Tourists who have not yet registered for an evacuation flight are encouraged to complete the designated digital form.
These measures underscore Israel's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of foreign visitors and enabling them to depart in an orderly manner, despite the current conflict situation. Providing comprehensive information and direct assistance aims to mitigate the challenges for tourists remaining in the country.
