Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is facing a record travel weekend: From July 25 to 29, 2024, the airport is expecting the biggest travel wave of the year. Around 33.000 passengers are scheduled for this period on 191 scheduled flights.

This increase in passenger numbers marks the peak of the summer travel season and underlines the continued popularity of the airport and the destinations it offers. This year, the focus is particularly on the Balearic island of Mallorca, which is once again the most popular travel destination.

Mallorca tops the list of preferred destinations again this year. In the first five days of the travel period, 22 flights will take off to and from Mallorca. The island has been one of the main attractions for summer holidaymakers for years, which is reflected in the high number of flights. In addition to Mallorca, Alicante, Antalya, Barcelona-Girona, Belgrade, Fez, Heraklion (Crete), London-Stansted, Malaga and Porto are also on the list of the ten most popular destinations.

The continued popularity of Mallorca can be attributed to the island's diverse offerings, from gorgeous beaches to bustling cities. The continued interest in Mallorca is also a sign of the airport's stability and success during peak season.

Increased passenger volume and new flight connections

For the entire summer holiday period, which lasts until September 7, 2024, the airport operators are forecasting more than 285.000 passengers on 1.661 flights. This represents an increase of around 10.000 passengers compared to the previous year, which already saw record numbers. In addition to the established flight connections, new routes are also contributing to this increase.

New flight connections have been added by Condor to Palma de Mallorca, Freebird Airlines and Mavi Gök Airlines to Antalya and Ryanair to Agadir, Banja Luka, Dubrovnik and Tangier, among others. These expansions in the flight network add to the attractiveness of the airport and offer travelers additional options to reach their summer destinations.

In view of the expected passenger volume, those responsible at the airport company are asking all travelers to arrive at the airport early. The recommendation is to be there at least two to three hours before departure. The current traffic situation and possible restrictions due to construction sites should also be taken into account. This precautionary measure is intended to ensure that all passengers have a smooth and relaxed start to their summer vacation.

Outlook for the 2024/2025 winter flight schedule

For 2024, Baden-Airpark expects to be able to keep passenger numbers stable at the previous year's level. The 2024/2025 winter flight schedule, which can already be booked, provides for an expansion of the offer. The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will not only serve the summer destinations Banja Luka and Tangier in winter, but will also fly to Tel Aviv again and increase the number of weekly flights on numerous popular routes. In addition, the Hungarian ultra-low-cost airline Wizz Air will expand its offer with additional weekly flights to Belgrade and Sibiu.

These expansions are part of the airport's comprehensive strategy to offer passengers a varied and needs-based range of flights. Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is thus continuing to position itself as an attractive departure airport for travelers who want to reach both summer and winter destinations conveniently.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is well prepared for the upcoming summer holidays with an expected record number of passengers. The continuous expansion of the flight offer and the new connections underline the importance of the airport for the region and the high demand for attractive travel destinations. By planning early and taking the current traffic situation into account, passengers can enjoy a stress-free start to their summer holidays.
