Cologne airport boss Johann Vanneste expects that the passenger volume of the previous year can be reached again in 2026 at the earliest. He is also of the opinion that the quarantine regulations act like a second lockdown on demand.
In an interview with the Rheinische Post the director of Cologne / Bonn Airport also stated that the fact that many business trips have been replaced by telephone and video conferencing has a very negative effect on demand. Vanneste puts the proportion of passengers who travel by air for business reasons at 30 percent.
