Lower Austria's museum landscape will present itself in spring 2025 with a diverse range of new exhibitions and innovative educational formats. From established foundations to modern art galleries throughout the state, exhibition venues will open their doors and invite visitors to engage with art, history, and culture. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasized the vibrancy and diversity of Lower Austria's museum landscape.
A central attraction is the Schallaburg Castle with its exhibition "Dreams... Dreaming," dedicated to the theme of the imaginary. The Kunsthalle Krems celebrates its 30th anniversary with a retrospective of the American painter Susan Rothenberg. The Lower Austrian State Gallery honors the artist Christa Hauer with a comprehensive exhibition on the occasion of her 100th birthday. The Museum Gugging focuses on the Art Brut artist Magalí Herrera, while the Nitsch Museum in Mistelbach presents a retrospective of Hermann Nitsch's work.
The museum town of St. Pölten also offers a diverse program. The Museum am Dom is opening the exhibition "Born in Fire" on religious cultural history. The House of History is exploring the experiences of the younger generation during the war and postwar period in the exhibition "Children of War - Growing Up between 1938 and 1955." The Former St. Pölten Synagogue is presenting a photo exhibition about the life of Kurt Bardos, born in 1922.
Special attention is also paid to cultural education for young visitors. The MAMUZ Mistelbach invites you on a journey back to the "Ice Age," the St. Pölten Children's Art Laboratory explores artistic processes in "Paper, Rock, Scissors," and the Haus für Natur is dedicated to nocturnal animals. Museums outside of the major cities also offer new inspiration, such as the Niedersulz Museum Village, Seitenstetten Abbey, Leiben Castle, and the Ostarrichi Cultural Center in Neuhofen.
