Lufthansa cancels flight to Tel Aviv due to increased security situation

Lufthansa canceled a planned connecting flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Tel Aviv overnight for safety reasons. The flight was originally scheduled to fly from Munich to Larnaca and then continue to Israel with a new crew.

Due to the temporary closure of Iranian airspace and the tense security situation in the Middle East, Lufthansa decided not to operate the flight. The situation in the region has worsened following the killing of two prominent opponents of Israel, which led to threats from Iran. The Lufthansa flight in question had 190 passengers on board, 23 of whom decided to stay in Cyprus instead of flying back to Munich. In another incident, a flight operated by Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines had to be diverted to Sofia. There are currently no further restrictions on flight operations to Tel Aviv.
