Travelers who use Lufthansa Express Rail will in future have an expanded mobility option. The Lufthansa boarding pass is now also valid as a ticket for local public transport at the departure and destination points. The so-called City Ticket from Deutsche Bahn (DB) is now included in all bookings - with the exception of connections to Siegburg and Basel.
This innovation allows passengers in 26 German cities to travel by bus, tram, subway and S-Bahn to the nearest Lufthansa Express Rail station or from there to their destination at no additional cost. The City Ticket can be used for a single journey in each direction on the day the train journey is valid.
Lufthansa Express Rail, which has been offered in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn for over 20 years, is enjoying increasing popularity. In 2024, around 500.000 passengers used the service, which currently connects 28 cities with Frankfurt Airport. The service includes more than 240 ICE connections with Lufthansa flight numbers every day, which means that significantly more cities within Germany are connected than Lufthansa itself flies to.
