Memmingen Airport expects record summer and optimizes processes

Advertising

The Memmingen Airport is preparing for a record-breaking summer. Over half a million passengers are expected to take off and land during the coming weeks of the summer holidays. This represents a further ten percent increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period last year. The airport's management believes it is well prepared to successfully manage the upcoming busy holiday season.

Last year, 490.000 passengers used Memmingen Airport during the holiday season. This summer, officials are now expecting around 540.000 passengers, a ten percent increase. "We have the largest offering since our airport was founded," reports the airport's managing director. Ralph Schmid. Currently, 60 destinations are scheduled for the coming weeks. These will be mainly operated by the two major partner airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air In addition, other holiday airlines on behalf of tour operators connect Memmingen with popular destinations such as Corsica, Crete and Rhodes. The most extensive offer this summer is for flights to MallorcaIn total, the airport expects around 230 departures per week, which is 20 more than last year.

Holiday destinations on the Mediterranean are particularly in demand again this year. Flights to the holiday regions of Spain, Greece, and Italy are very popular. But so-called insider tips such as Montenegro or Varna on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are also enjoying growing popularity. In addition to classics such as London, Dublin, and Rome, attractive newcomers such as Budapest, Krakow, and Riga are also in high demand for city breaks. Airport Managing Director Ralf Schmid emphasized that a significant proportion of passengers also use the holiday months to visit relatives and friends back home. The numerous connections to Eastern Europe, in particular, represent a valuable air bridge for many people. Memmingen offers a particularly wide range of services in this area, which sets the airport apart from others. To ensure a relaxed start to your vacation, airport officials recommend that travelers arrive at the airport two hours before departure. Those flying very early in the morning should consider staying overnight there. To avoid parking stress, we strongly recommend booking parking spaces online in advance, as parking outside the airport grounds in restricted areas may result in towing. For your journey, we recommend using train and bus services, such as the Airport City Shuttle, which runs every 30 minutes between Memmingen station and the terminal, or the Allgäu Airport Express from Munich Central Station. FlixBus-Stop is located directly in front of the terminal, which offers additional travel options.
