Munich Airport is investing in expanding gate capacity in Terminal 1 with the construction of a new finger that extends 360 meters into the west apron.
The cost of the project has now risen to 665 million euros, and commissioning is planned for the end of 2025. The aim of the expansion is to increase the attractiveness of the hub for passengers of various airlines, as Terminal 2 is mainly used by Lufthansa and the Star Alliance.
The new finger will have six floors, with three levels dedicated to passenger handling. Construction work, which has been ongoing since 2019 and was delayed by the pandemic, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The new building will make it possible to position up to twelve small or six large aircraft at the gates at the same time. It will not be possible for airlines to reserve the gates; resource planning will be done in consultation with the airlines.
