On September 12, 2024, a dangerous incident occurred at Nashville Airport: An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 had to abort takeoff when a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 crossed the runway without clearance.

The Alaska Airlines plane, which had already accelerated to 104 knots, was forced to make an emergency stop, causing several tires to burst. Fortunately, the passengers were uninjured. The incident is one of a series of near-misses at US airports and is currently being investigated by the US Air Traffic Accident Bureau (NTSB).
