The President of the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV), Walter Veit, Susanne Kraus Winkler and Georg Imlauer on their recent elected positions in the tourism sector of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ). Kraus-Winkler was elected chairwoman of the sector, and Imlauer was elected chairman of the trade association. These top appointments are considered important in an economically challenging environment for tourism.
Walter Veit emphasized that the decades of industry knowledge of both newly elected members, both from their work in industry policy and at the operational level, are a good basis for developing rapid solutions to existing problems. As examples of the diverse challenges, Veit cited the still unresolved tipping issue, increasing bureaucracy, difficulties in labor market policy, and issues related to digitalization, such as electronic guest registration. He emphasized that businesses see an urgent need for action in these areas.
The Austrian Hotel Association, which counts approximately 1.700 voluntary members, all of whom are considered leading regional businesses, signaled its willingness to cooperate constructively with the new tourism leadership of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ). The ÖHV is an interest group that advocates for the interests of the hotel industry in Austria and seeks solutions to the industry's pressing problems. The offer of cooperation is made under the motto "Together it's easier!", which emphasizes the importance of combined strength in tackling complex issues.
The Austrian tourism industry, a significant economic driver for the country, is currently facing various challenges, including competition in international markets, a shortage of skilled workers, and the need to adapt to digital developments. The election of experienced representatives to head the WKÖ's tourism division is therefore seen as an important step toward strengthening the industry and finding practical solutions for businesses.
