A third cargo center is to be built at Nuremberg Airport. Airport boss Michael Hupe and Soheyl Rahmani, managing director of CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH, have signed a corresponding preliminary contract.

With the commissioning of the Cargo Center Nürnberg (CCN) in 1987, the logistics location Airport Nürnberg has increasingly established itself. Cargo Center 2003 followed in 2, doubling the logistics and office space. On average, more than 8.000 tonnes are transported by air freight at Nuremberg Airport each year. In addition, there are many thousands of tons of freight that are processed in the two cargo centers and transported by truck. It has been a stable market for many years. During the pandemic, various special transports were added, such as protective masks or rapid tests. The current positive market development in the logistics sector also repeatedly led to inquiries about expanding the logistics space at the airport.

The cargo area can be expanded by demolishing the old catering building of the former Lufthansa subsidiary LSG Sky Chefs, which no longer uses this location. With the new CCN3, the offer will grow by around 3.600 square meters of hall space and around 1.900 square meters of office space. For comparison: The current total storage area (CCN1 and CCN2) is 14.400 square meters and the total office area is 6.550 square meters. The completion of the new Cargo Center is planned for the end of 2023.

On July 1, 2021, the company CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH could be won as a user of the planned new hall and parts of the office space. The additional office space is also required by freight forwarders operating at the location.

CHI is the handling partner of well-known logistics service providers for air freight throughout Germany. The range of services of CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH includes the picking and provision of air cargo, cargo securing in accordance with the Aviation Security Act as well as Europe-wide pre- and post-carriage, liner transport, among others, from and to Frankfurt, Munich, Leipzig and Liège.

“With CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH we have found a strong partner with whom we want to tackle the project. In August we will put the building tender on the market, ”says airport manager Dr. Horn.

Managing Director of CHI NUE, Soheyl Rahmani, on the project: “The Cargo Center Nürnberg 3 creates ideal conditions for further growth of the CHI Group in southern Germany. Freight forwarders and the associated industry in the region will be provided with additional logistics space directly at Nuremberg Airport. In the course of the global COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear how important Nuremberg Airport is for the region. "

CHI NUE is a family-run company of the CHI Group with headquarters at Frankfurt Airport. CHI has been operating successfully on the market for over 25 years; More than 65 well-known and internationally active freight forwarders are among their customer base. CHI NUE already manages several thousand square meters of storage space at Nuremberg Airport. There is also a station at Munich Airport.
