Nuremberg Airport reports strong travel appetite during the Whitsun holidays

Advertising

Nuremberg's Albrecht Dürer Airport is experiencing a significant increase in passengers during the current Whitsun holidays, reflecting the region's continued desire to travel. Following an already strong Easter season, around 294.000 passengers are expected in the coming weeks, representing an increase of almost 18 percent over the previous year. This confirms the airport's positive development and its role as an important gateway to international destinations.

A total of more than 1.900 takeoffs and landings are planned during the holiday season, averaging around 115 flight movements per day. The busiest day is expected to be Saturday, June 7, with around 18.400 passengers and 120 takeoffs and landings. The most popular destinations take travelers to sunny climes: Antalya in Turkey is the undisputed number one with around 60.000 passengers, followed by Mallorca with more than 33.000 passengers. The Greek islands such as Heraklion, Rhodes, Kos, Crete, and Corfu are also very popular, with a combined total of around 38.000 passengers. In addition, major hub airports such as Frankfurt, Istanbul, Amsterdam, and Paris remain important destinations for travelers.

A notable trend is the comeback of last-minute bookings, which had almost disappeared in previous years. Well-known tour operators are currently offering discounts of up to 50 percent on selected trips, giving last-minute vacationers the opportunity to still score a bargain. Looking ahead, demand also remains high; for example, the Bulgarian seaside resort of Varna is attracting interest for the fall. Greek destinations such as Thessaloniki, Portuguese destinations such as Faro and Madeira, and numerous Spanish cities such as Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Seville, and Valencia are also tempting.

Information for travelers and service improvements

To ensure a smooth journey, Nuremberg Airport recommends that passengers arrive at the airport early. Especially on Friday, June 6, increased traffic is expected on Marienbergstraße due to the Kurban Festival (Feast of Sacrifice) in Marienberg Park. Generally, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport approximately two hours before departure.

The airport also offers modern amenities to shorten waiting times. Airlines such as Air France, KLM, and Wizz Air allow self-check-in of suitcases at self-check-in kiosks. After the security check, a new shopping and dining area in the waiting area invites you to linger and shop. Press spokesman Christian Albrecht summarized the situation: "Almost 300.000 people are departing from Nuremberg Airport during the Whitsun holidays – a clear sign of the great desire to travel in the region. Sunny destinations such as Antalya, Mallorca, and the Greek islands are particularly popular. Tip: Arrive early, expect more traffic around June 6th – and ideally use the self-check-in kiosks to avoid waiting times." This development underscores the recovery in travel and the airports' adaptation to travelers' needs.
