Proper vehicle lighting is particularly important in autumn

With the arrival of autumn and the associated shorter days, road safety has become more of a focus. The Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC) warns drivers about the dangers of inadequate vehicle lighting.

In particular, the daytime running light setting could result in the rear of the vehicle remaining unlit in the dark, which increases the risk of rear-end collisions. To avoid this, ÖAMTC traffic psychologist Marion Seidenberger recommends using the automatic light function, which automatically activates the rear lights at dusk and in tunnels.

A common misconception is that active dashboard lighting gives the impression that the vehicle is fully illuminated. Drivers should therefore familiarize themselves with their vehicle's lighting settings to avoid possible fines of up to 10.000 euros. Switching on vehicle lights correctly is not only a legal requirement, but also a crucial factor for your own safety and that of other road users.
