Ryanair continues to focus on growth and expansion in Austria and today, November 14, 2024, announced its 2025 summer schedule. This includes three new routes that will be offered from Linz and Salzburg airports from May 2025. The new direct flights connect these cities with popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean and offer Austrian travellers and international guests even more choice at the most competitive prices in Europe.
The airport operators in Linz and Salzburg can look forward to increased connections to Alicante and Bari. In the future, Linz Airport will offer flights to London, Alicante and Bari. Two of these routes, Alicante and Bari, will be served with four weekly flights, ensuring a continuous connection to these popular holiday destinations. Salzburg will receive a new connection to Alicante in the 2025 summer flight schedule, as well as an additional frequency to London, comprising a total of 12 weekly flights.
A strategic step for Austrian tourism
These new routes are not only a win for passengers, but also for Austrian tourism. Ryanair emphasizes that the expansion of the flight offer will directly contribute to promoting local tourism. The creation of new jobs and growth in the Upper Austria and Salzburg region are also to be expected, as air traffic brings additional economic stimulus to the region.
"Our expanded route range from Linz and Salzburg is another example of our commitment to Austria," explained Andreas Gruber, a spokesman for Ryanair. "With more than 90 routes from Austria, we offer Austrian travelers the opportunity to fly to fantastic Mediterranean destinations at the lowest prices. These routes not only enable more travel options, but also a sustainable increase in passenger numbers and tourism growth in the regions."
Resistance to the Air Transport Tax
Despite its desire for expansion, Ryanair is still dissatisfied with another issue: the high Austrian air traffic tax. This currently amounts to 12 euros and is seen by the airline as an obstacle to further growth in Austrian air traffic. Ryanair is calling on the Austrian government to oppose this tax in order to make Austria more attractive in the international competition for airlines. Ryanair cites the Italian and Swedish governments as role models, which abolished this tax, which significantly revitalized the air traffic market there.
market strategies and future outlook
Despite these challenges, Ryanair has built up a significant market position in Austria in recent years and now offers numerous destinations in Europe and beyond. The 2025 summer flight schedule represents a continued expansion that is not only beneficial for holidaymakers, but also helps to stabilize and increase economic dynamism. Ryanair has now become an indispensable player in air transport in Austria, and the expansion of routes such as to Alicante and Bari shows the company's continued confidence in the country as a tourist hotspot.
Reactions to the launch of the new schedule have already been positive, and the airline announced a special ticket sale that will be available within the next few days. This includes reduced fares for flights from Linz and Salzburg, allowing even more travelers to benefit from the low-cost offers.
