The Scandinavian airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is strengthening its commitment to Salzburg Airport and is responding to increasing demand by expanding its flight offering to Copenhagen. From mid-May 2025, the airline will offer direct connections from Salzburg to the Danish capital.

This new connection, which was originally only offered once a week during the summer period of 2024, will now be expanded to up to three flights per week. This marks a further step in consolidating air traffic between the two cities and is intended to promote both tourism and business travel.

A growing market for SAS

The cooperation between SAS and Salzburg Airport has proven extremely successful in recent years, especially in winter when the airline brings holidaymakers from Scandinavia to the popular winter sports areas of the Alps. The weekly direct connection from Salzburg to Copenhagen, introduced in summer 2024, has been well received due to high demand from both Salzburg and Copenhagen. In response, SAS has decided to significantly expand its capacity for summer 2025 to meet passenger needs and further improve travel connections.

From mid-May 2025, SAS will now offer direct flights between Salzburg and Copenhagen three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). This connection will run until the end of September and will be particularly frequent in the summer months of June, July and August, giving travellers more flexibility and choice. Flights can be booked online via the SAS website as well as through travel agents, who also recommend tailor-made tours of Scandinavia to their customers.

Copenhagen as an important hub

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, has increasingly established itself as an important transport hub for international air traffic in recent years. With SAS joining the international airline alliance SkyTeam, the Danish capital is becoming even more important for global air traffic. From Copenhagen, passengers can not only reach many destinations in Europe, but also North America and Asia. It is particularly noteworthy that new long-haul flights will also be launched in summer 2025, including a direct connection to Seattle, USA.

Copenhagen's strategic location, combined with SAS's new alliance membership, makes the city an attractive base for travelers seeking connections to North America, Asia or other European destinations. Copenhagen Airport is increasingly being used as a major hub for international flights, which is of great importance not only for Scandinavian but also for European air traffic.

The new direct flights from Salzburg to Copenhagen will be operated with both Embraer 195 and Airbus A230neo aircraft. Both aircraft types not only offer a high level of comfort for passengers, but are also characterized by low noise emissions and particularly efficient engine technology. SAS aircraft therefore meet high environmental standards and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, which meets the increasing demands for sustainability in the aviation industry.

Another highlight for the Salzburg region

The expansion of SAS's flight offering to Copenhagen will not only benefit passengers from Salzburg, but also the region as a whole. In recent years, Salzburg Airport has increasingly established itself as an important transport hub for travelers from Bavaria and other parts of Central Europe.

Copenhagen, as another destination in the summer flight schedule, is particularly attractive for city breaks and short-term travelers. The increasing demand for such direct connections shows that Copenhagen remains an interesting destination for both vacationers and business travelers.
