Slovakia is stepping up its efforts to promote tourism in Northern Europe. On January 16, 2025, Slovakia Travel, the national tourism promotion organization, officially opened a representative office for the Nordic countries in Helsinki. The aim is to specifically promote Slovakia as a travel destination in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The ceremonial opening took place immediately before the start of the Scandinavian tourism fair Matka 2025, where tour operators from all over the world present themselves.

The Nordic countries are another target area for Slovak tourism promotion, alongside the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Israel. According to the head of Slovakia Travel, Ivana Vala Magátová, the presence in Scandinavia will help strengthen relations between Slovakia and Northern Europe and make the country better known as an attractive holiday destination. Scandinavian visitors arrive predominantly in the summer months, with a focus on the Bratislava region, where they spend an average of two nights.

The Slovak Ambassador to Finland, Dušan Krištofík, welcomed the opening of the new office and emphasized the growing ties between the two regions. Slovakia Travel hopes that the increased promotional activities will attract an increasing number of tourists from Scandinavia. The organization plans to further expand its promotional activities with targeted campaigns and cooperation with tour operators.
