The Spanish traffic authority DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) has signed a contract with a joint venture consisting of Kapsch TrafficCom, Indra and Worldline to support the automated complaint processing center in the city of León. The system, which is based on video surveillance, has processed over three million fines to date. The contract includes the maintenance and further development of the system as well as support for the traffic police directorates in the provinces and the central services of the DGT. The total volume of the contract is 83 million euros and extends from March 2024 to the end of 2027.
Kapsch TrafficCom, in which the company has a 33% stake, is taking on key tasks in the area of automated processing of complaints. Javier Aguirre, Managing Director of Kapsch TrafficCom for Spain and Portugal, emphasizes that the enforcement of speed limits plays an essential role in road safety and the company is proud of the continued cooperation with the DGT. In addition to pure fine processing, the joint venture also ensures the maintenance and further development of the more than 400 hardware components along the Spanish road network, which include speed measuring devices and video cameras.
The DGT is increasingly relying on automation and modern technologies to increase efficiency and accuracy in the processing of traffic violations. The contract reflects the growing importance of digital solutions in the field of road safety and the efficient management of fines procedures.
