Stuttgart Airport relies on fully electric ground power supply

Stuttgart Airport is converting all aircraft positions on the air cargo apron to a fully electric ground power supply.

This is done through the use of mobile Ground Power Units (GPU), which replace diesel generators and thus contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. The project is funded with 2,4 million euros by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport.

By switching to battery-powered GPUs, the airport is pursuing the goal of achieving locally emission-free aircraft handling by 2030. All affected external positions are to be supplied with fully electric power by mid-2025. When handing over the funding notice, Federal Transport Minister Dr. Volker Wissing emphasized that Germany wants to play a pioneering role on the way to emission-free aviation. The measure is part of the airport's climate strategy, which aims to reduce emissions to zero by 2040.
