Stuttgart-Echterdingen Airport was closed for several hours on Thursday evening for security reasons. The cause was not exactly common, because a “baking mix” that was found in the form of sugar, flour and baking powder, packed in bottles, in the check-in area led to the airport being closed as a precautionary measure.

Federal police officers became aware of two abandoned containers and, after consulting with their superiors, initiated the precautionary closure of the airport. It then turned out that these were filled with flour, sugar and baking powder. During the meticulous search of the terminal, the officers found six more bottles in trash cans that were also filled with this food.

In the meantime it has also been found out that these were left behind by a male passenger. According to reports, there should have been no bad intent, because the traveler had assumed that he should not have taken the food through the security check. A mistake, because flour, sugar and baking powder are harmless and would have passed an explosives test without any problems.

Nevertheless, the harmless “baking mix” triggered a large-scale operation by the federal police and a temporary closure of the airport. The executive acted on the principle of “safety first” and gave the all-clear after it was determined that the contents of the containers were completely harmless. Nevertheless, the man will have to be prepared for questioning by the police. The backgrounds are also determined. In the worst case scenario, the passenger may have to pay the cost of the lock and the police operation. It is still completely unclear why the male passenger traveled with six bottles full of baking ingredients and then disposed of them at the airport, although he should have been allowed to take them with him.
