The first non-stop flight for Tui from Innsbruck to Karpathos took off early on Tuesday afternoon, marking the beginning of a new summer connection that significantly expands the travel options for holidaymakers from Tyrol. With an impressive occupancy rate of 99 percent, great interest in the new route was evident on the first day of the flight.

From May 21, 2024, Tui will offer direct flights from Innsbruck to the Greek island of Karpathos every Tuesday. This expansion of the flight offering comes about in collaboration with Eurowings and includes over 40 hotels from the Tui portfolio as well as numerous experiences and activities that can be booked through Tui Musement. Whether it's a relaxing holiday or an active holiday - on Karpathos travelers will find a variety of options for organizing their holiday.

Karpathos, an island in the Dodecanese, is known for its traditional mountain villages, authentic taverns and untouched nature. The island offers a variety of beaches and swimming options to suit all tastes, from quiet coves to busy beaches with water sports.

Voices from the industry

Gottfried Math, Managing Director of Tui Austria, emphasized the importance of the new connection: “I am very pleased that we have expanded our flight offer for our Tui guests from Innsbruck this summer with a direct flight to Karpathos. We rely on our close cooperation with Innsbruck Airport as well as on a strong collaboration with our flight partner Eurowings and of course our reliable sales partners. The booking situation shows that the authentic Greek island is on trend. Nevertheless, there is still free capacity for those interested in the current summer season.”

Marco Pernetta, Managing Director of Innsbruck Airport, also emphasized the importance of the new flight connection: “Offering a new holiday destination is an important and positive signal for the Tyrolean travel market that cannot be taken for granted. I would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment so that we can offer a new route this summer despite the current shortage of aircraft and personnel.”

Expansion of the Greece offer

The flight to Karpathos is part of a broader Greece offer from Tui from Innsbruck. The first flight to Crete took off on May 13th. Further connections to Rhodes and Kos will follow on May 21st and 22nd. Tui Austria therefore offers a wide selection of Greek destinations that are extremely popular with holidaymakers.

Pernetta further emphasized: “I wish our largest tour operator partner Tui Austria a successful summer season in Innsbruck and all holidaymakers who are flying with Tui from Innsbruck this summer an all-round wonderful holiday.”

Positive impulses for the Tyrolean travel market

The introduction of the new flight connection to Karpathos shows how important continuous innovation and expansion of tourism offerings are. At a time when the aviation industry is facing challenges such as aircraft and staff shortages, the successful launch of the direct flight to Karpathos represents a significant achievement.

The new connection not only offers Tyrolean holidaymakers attractive travel options, but also strengthens Innsbruck Airport as an important hub for international air travel. By working with reliable partners such as Eurowings, Tui can offer its customers a high level of quality and comfort.

The initial positive feedback and the high utilization of the first flight give hope for a successful summer season. Tui Austria and Innsbruck Airport are sending a strong signal for Tyroleans' love of traveling and the attractiveness of Greek travel destinations. The continuous expansion of the offering shows that growth and innovation in tourism is possible even in challenging times.

For the future, Tui plans to further expand its offering and offer travelers even more destinations and experiences. Close cooperation with Innsbruck Airport and other partners will play a crucial role.
