Mozarthaus Vienna: Sounds and childhood journey in Mozart's residence
The Mozarthaus Vienna, a place of great historical significance as Mozart's former residence, will be dedicated to musical performances and child-friendly discoveries in the summer of 2025.
Concert series “MOZART'S HERITAGE” with pianist SoRyang:
From June to September 2025, the Mozarthaus invites you to a special concert series every Tuesday at 16:00 p.m. Under the title "MOZART'S HERITAGE," the internationally acclaimed pianist SoRyang will perform selected Mozart masterpieces. These include works the composer created directly on Domgasse, lending the concerts a special authenticity. The one-hour piano concerts are aimed at long-time Mozart lovers as well as new audiences seeking to rediscover the beauty of Mozart's music. Admission prices are tiered and include regular visitors, concessionary groups, and young guests under 20. Tickets are available directly at the museum box office or through Wien Ticket.
Children’s program as part of the holiday games:
For the youngest visitors, the Mozarthaus Vienna offers two exciting formats as part of the wienXtra holiday game:
- “Mozart on the Move” – Workshop for children (6–12 years): This interactive workshop invites children to immerse themselves in the world of the 18th century and explore how Mozart traveled and what he had in his suitcase. Children will embark on a sonic journey through Europe, which will lead them through Mozart's apartment and playfully introduce them to the era. The workshop will take place from July 1 to 17, 2025, every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00 a.m. and lasts 90 minutes. Advance registration is required.
- Holiday play “Inner City plays 2025” – “Visiting Mozart”: This special holiday play format allows children to explore Mozart's former home on their own. Questions such as "How did the composer live with his family?" and "Where did he compose his works?" are central to the exploration. This free activity for children, featuring the "Innere Stadt spielt" booklet, takes place on Thursday, July 17, from 16:00–17:00 p.m. Registration is also required.
House of Music: Interactive sound experiences for the whole family
The House of Music is dedicated to teaching sound in a playful and interactive way. In summer 2025, the focus will be on children's concerts designed to awaken the joy of music.
Children's concert highlights:
The summer is packed with various concerts specifically tailored to a young audience:
- "CLASSICAL COOL! Vivaldi: The Four Seasons": On June 29th and September 14th, visitors can enjoy a concert for children aged 2 and up.
- "CLASSIC COOL! Strauss Workshop": On several dates in July (July 9, 13, 20, and 27), children ages 6 and up can experience dance, music, and history in a Strauss workshop. This event is free, but seating is limited, and tickets are available in advance at the box office.
- “CLASSICAL COOL! All waltzes!”: On July 13th and 20th there will be music for the little ones to marvel at, laugh at and dance along to, making the world of the waltz accessible in a playful way.
- "CLASSIC COOL! Peter and the Wolf": On September 7, Prokofiev's musical fairy tale "Peter and the Wolf" will be presented in an interactive and child-friendly way, allowing young listeners to get to know the instruments and characters in an exciting way.
Tickets for these events are available both at the box office in the Haus der Musik and through Wien Ticket's sales channels, facilitating access for a wider audience.
KunstHausWien: Focus on creativity and craftsmanship
In summer 2025, KunstHausWien will be dedicated to the theme of creativity and craftsmanship. With a diverse program of workshops and holiday activities for children, the museum invites children to get involved and learn new skills.
Workshops & activities for adults:
- Female Makerspace Workshop (July 5, 13:00–17:00 p.m.): In collaboration with the Craftistas open women's workshop, women have the opportunity to build custom lampshades from wood veneer under the guidance of a carpenter. These objects are inspired by the light installations of artist Mika Rottenberg, whose exhibition "Antimatter Factory" explores the use of resources. This format combines artistic inspiration with practical craftsmanship.
- Repair Café – Rethinking Old Clothes (August 8, 15:30–19:00 p.m.): After a guided tour of Mika Rottenberg's exhibition "Antimatter Factory," participants will head to the Vienna Hilfswerk's Neighborhood Center 3. There, they will repair broken clothing together as a creative counter to our throwaway society. This program promotes awareness of the value of clothing and the possibilities of reuse. Registration is required for both workshops.
Holiday games for children (6–12 years):
- “Fantastic Plastic Eaters” (July 14, 15, 28 & 29, 10:30–12:00 each day): Children delve into the world of plastic-eating bacteria and fungi and model creative fantasy creatures that devour the garbage of the future. This workshop teaches complex scientific topics in a playful way.
- “Colorful Creative Workshop” (August 13, 14, 20 & 21, 10:30–12:00 each day): Inspired by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, children will learn printing techniques, experiment with colors and shapes, and create their own artwork. Registration for both children's workshops is via email.
Jewish Museum Vienna: Diverse Perspectives and Dialogue
The Jewish Museum Vienna also offers special formats for adults and children alike in the summer, providing insights into Jewish culture, history and current discourses.
Breakfast tour “Boker tov!”:
On selected dates in the summer (June 22, July 11, and July 27, at 9:00 a.m.), the museum will open its doors exclusively before regular opening hours. After a 60-minute guided tour of the current exhibition, participants will enjoy a sumptuous oriental breakfast at the Taïm Café Bistro. This offering includes kosher sparkling wine, coffee or tea, lemonade, and a small surprise, rounding off the cultural experience with culinary delights. Participation is limited to a maximum of 16 people per tour, and reservations must be made at least 24 hours before the tour.
Children’s program “Widdewiddewie Museum World” (6–13 years):
In cooperation with the wienXtra holiday game, children can reimagine the museum. Questions like "What should a museum actually look like?" and "What is exciting, what could be improved?" are the focus. The young participants embark on a creative journey of discovery through all floors of the building and then design their own museum area using cardboard, fabric, modeling clay, and imagination. The program takes place from July 14 to 17 and from July 21 to 24, both at 10:30 a.m., and admission is free for children. Registration is required.
Literary evening with Jon Fosse:
On July 22nd at 18:30 p.m., Nobel Prize winner Jon Fosse will read from his book "Ein Leuchten" (A Shining Light) at the Dorotheergasse Museum. He will be accompanied by Burgtheater actor Robert Reinagl, who will present a reading in German. Afterwards, Fosse will speak with curators Domagoj Akrap and Daniela Schmid about Jewish mysticism in his work. The bilingual event (English/German) is part of the supporting program for the current exhibition "G*d. The Big Questions Between Heaven and Earth" (until October 5th, 2025). Admission to this special evening is free; doors begin at 18:00 p.m.
“Knit (in) the Museum – Talking with Needles and Threads”:
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 16:00 p.m., the Jewish Museum Vienna invites you to join us for a knitting and crocheting session. This format is part of the intervention "No Room for Discussion?" and offers a comfortable atmosphere for discussing the difficult discourse surrounding Israel and Palestine. The museum will provide yarn and needles; no prior experience is necessary. Participation is possible with a guided tour ticket and valid admission ticket.
In addition, the Jewish Museum Vienna is offering a summer promotion on annual passes from July 1 to 15, which allows for discounted admission for the entire year.
