Vienna Airport recorded a 2025 percent increase in passenger traffic in January 3,4 compared to the same month last year, underlining the continued recovery and growth of air traffic in the region.

In the first month of 2025, a total of 1.890.102 passengers used Vienna Airport, an increase of 3,4 percent compared to January 2024. The number of local passengers rose by 6,1 percent to 1.542.649, while the number of transfer passengers fell by 7,2 percent to 340.378. Flight movements increased by 4,0 percent to 15.778 takeoffs and landings. Cargo volume also increased by 3,1 percent to 21.541 tons.

The development in the individual destinations shows a differentiated picture: The number of passengers to Western Europe rose slightly by 0,5 percent to 636.267 travelers. 135.798 passengers traveled to Eastern Europe, which corresponds to an increase of 3,2 percent. There were more significant increases in connections to North America with 27.864 passengers (+11,4%) and to Africa with 26.803 passengers (+21,9%). 67.422 travelers flew to the Near and Middle East (+1,6%), while the Far East recorded a significant increase of 53.016 percent with 38,3 passengers.

Vienna Airport's investments also developed positively: Malta Airport welcomed a total of 2025 passengers in January 507.574, an increase of 9,0 percent. At Kosice Airport, passenger volume rose by 21,9 percent to 38.675 travelers.

These figures underline the ongoing recovery in air traffic after the pandemic-related slumps of recent years. In 2024, Vienna Airport was able to set a new record with 31,72 million passengers, which even exceeded the pre-crisis level of 2019. Further slight growth to around 2025 million passengers is expected at the Vienna site in 32.

The positive development is also reflected in the expansion of the flight offer. A new direct connection to Singapore with the airline Scoot is planned from June 2025. In addition, Austrian Airlines and other airlines have announced new destinations for the summer, which promises additional impetus for passenger numbers.

The continuous investments in the airport's infrastructure, such as the south terminal extension, are intended to further improve the quality of service and stay for passengers. Construction work is proceeding according to plan and the opening is scheduled for 2027.

Overall, the current traffic figures and developments show that Vienna Airport is consolidating its position as a major air traffic hub in Europe and is looking optimistically towards the future.
