Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) recently announced an expansion of its route network, which will come into effect from summer 2025. With new direct connections from Zurich to Niš (Serbia), Heringsdorf (Germany), Montpellier (France) and Dubrovnik (Croatia), the range of European travel destinations available to passengers will be significantly expanded.
In addition, the connection from Geneva to Berlin, introduced in winter, will be continued. This expansion aims to meet the growing travel needs of passengers while offering a variety of attractive holiday destinations.
Expansion of the route network: A look at the new destinations
From July 2025, Swiss will fly regularly to Niš, one of the oldest cities in Serbia, known not only for its history but also for its cultural attractions. The city has a rich history dating back to ancient times and offers visitors a variety of attractions, including the Niš Fortress, the Ćele-Kula and various museums presenting the past of this important city. This new connection is particularly aimed at Serbs in the diaspora who are looking for a convenient way to travel to friends and family in their homeland.
Heringsdorf on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom is also being added to the program. With its fine sandy beaches and picturesque promenade, the town is a popular destination for those seeking relaxation and nature lovers. The surrounding nature is ideal for hiking and cycling, making Heringsdorf an attractive summer destination.
Swiss will fly twice a week to Montpellier, known for its unique blend of medieval architecture and modern lifestyle. The city is not only an important university location, but also a cultural center with numerous attractions such as the Place de la Comédie and the Arc de Triomphe. This connection will offer travelers the opportunity to experience French culture and lifestyle up close.
From April 17, 2025, the connection to Dubrovnik, the famous "Pearl of the Adriatic", will be launched. Swiss is taking over this route from its sister company Edelweiss and will offer up to five weekly flights. Dubrovnik, known for its stunning old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracts numerous tourists every year. The historic city walls and buildings such as the Sponza Palace as well as the beautiful beaches make Dubrovnik one of the most attractive destinations on the Adriatic coast.
Increasing demand: flights to popular destinations
To meet the increasing demand, Swiss will also increase the number of flights to other popular European destinations, including Manchester, Krakow, Košice and Copenhagen. These adjustments are part of Swiss' strategy to meet the needs of its passengers and offer them greater flexibility in planning their journeys.
long-haul destinations and seasonal flights
In addition to the new European destinations, Swiss will continue to serve long-haul destinations such as Washington DC, Toronto and Seoul in summer 2025. These destinations were recently added to the winter flight schedule and are attracting a lot of interest. Seasonal flights to Seoul and Toronto will be available from March 2025, giving passengers additional options for their travel.
Direct connection from Geneva to Berlin remains
Swiss will also maintain the direct connection from Geneva to Berlin, which was launched in winter 2024/2025, next summer. This daily connection will be operated with modern aircraft from the A220 family and offers travelers a convenient way to reach the German capital.
Outlook for the 2025 summer flight season
In total, Swiss will offer an extensive flight program with 2025 destinations in summer 116. From Zurich, passengers can choose from 70 European and 25 intercontinental destinations.
From Geneva, Swiss is expanding its offering with 40 short-haul destinations, including the long-haul destination New York. Bookings for the new flights have already opened and passengers can look forward to a varied and well-thought-out travel offer.
