Thailand will introduce electronic travel authorization for business travelers from December 2024

From December 1, 2024, business travelers traveling to Thailand will be required to present an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

This regulation affects travelers from a total of 93 countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, who were previously exempt from the visa requirement. The ETA is intended to simplify entry processes and improve the tracking of foreign visitors. The approved ETA allows a single entry for up to 60 days, which can be extended by 30 days. The application is made online and is free of charge. From June 2025, the ETA will become part of the Thai e-visa system.

    It was postponed, wasn't it?

      Comment:
I've already spent hours today trying to finally find an INFO without a HOLE... I'm sorry, I didn't find it! 😦
OK, “we” are now allowed to enter the country for 60 days with a passport only, and we also have the option of extending it by another 30 days in the IO (as we did before with a passport entry or the TR visa). I wonder why I should even do a TR and I want to leave it as it is this time (90 days including extension)... Saves time, money and nerves (or does it?).
OK, this ETA registration SHOULD have started on December 1st, but it is now dragging on until (max.?) mid-2025….
      So far everything is clear!
BUT: damn it, on almost every website I've been to, it says that I have to do this (from December 1st) if I enter the country in December,... it also refers to official websites etc. where I have to register for this, but there is (still) no mention of ETA anywhere. For example, the official e-visa website.
IF the gentlemen on all the websites I have looked at (DE/EN) would at least write something like “until this system goes online (etc.) you can/should still/already enter the country this way on a temporary basis” or “it is only the 2nd step after the new visa exemption… and has nothing to do with the 60(90) days now permitted…” I would have been grateful!
There is more detailed information on eta.in.th/de about how this will be implemented internally and externally, as well as:
Sept. 26, 2024 – The Thailand Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is currently a proposal and not yet a requirement. The expected approval date is between December 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, but there is a possibility that it may be delayed further.
By the way, I also heard the term “pilot project” from the Thai side,… tsk, tsk, tsk,… 🙂
I'll just wait and see, but just to be on the safe side, I'll take a few documents with me in my hand luggage (hotel bookings.../proof of income, etc.) as I uploaded "previously" with the e-Visa application so that I don't have a nasty surprise when I enter the country with a return ticket in 90 days (i.e. 30 days after the stamp in my passport that I will hopefully receive by then) etc.
      Regards,
      Paul.
