Turkey saw strong growth in tourism in the first half of 2024. A total of 26,1 million guests visited the country, an increase of 13,9 percent compared to the previous year. Tourism revenue increased by 9,3 percent to 23,7 billion US dollars.
Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy expressed confidence that the annual target of 60 million visitors and 60 billion dollars in sales would be achieved. Growth was particularly strong in the main source markets of Russia, Germany and the United Kingdom. The number of German tourists rose by nine percent to over 2,5 million. There was also increased interest in the country's cultural attractions; visitor numbers to museums and historical sites rose by twelve percent to 14 million. The most popular sights included Ephesus, the Mevlana Museum, Hierapolis and Pamukkale, as well as the Cappadocia region.
