Turkish Airlines has been connecting Salzburg Airport with its Istanbul hub for around ten years. Originally it started with four weekly rotations and has since been expanded to daily service.

During the corona pandemic, the connection was suspended for some time and was then gradually restarted. In addition to ten years of presence in Salzburg, Turkish Airlines is also celebrating its 90th anniversary.

“We congratulate Turkish Airlines on its 90th anniversary and thank you for 10 years of partnership! The last 10 years have been characterized by teamwork on equal terms and loyalty even in stormy times; the focus has always been on strengthening and expanding the connection to the Bosporus. The plans back then to connect Salzburg as a business and tourism location with Istanbul on a daily basis have been more than fulfilled! Since 2013, we have had a Star Alliance partner in Salzburg, Turkish Airlines, which offers top quality with the best service, with an excellent, global route network via Istanbul,” says airport managing director Bettina Ganghofer. “We are definitely looking forward to further developing the route together with Turkish Airlines in the coming years! By the way, many people don't even know that the Turkish community in Salzburg and the three surrounding federal states is a very strong one, because around 75.000 citizens with Turkish roots live here - I'm not even counting the entire Bavarian catchment area, which extends to Rosenheim in addition".

Star Alliance member Turkish Airlines was founded in 1933 with a fleet of five aircraft and today has a fleet of 429 passenger and cargo aircraft flying to 344 destinations in 129 countries worldwide. The Salzburg connection originally led to Istanbul Ataturk Airport. In 2018 they moved to the new airport in the Bosphorus metropolis because Ataturk is no longer used for commercial scheduled flight operations.

“We are proud to celebrate our 10th anniversary in Salzburg as we have the opportunity to connect our guests from here to the world through our uniquely positioned transfer center in Istanbul. We would like to thank the management of Salzburg Airport and all our partners here for their valuable support over the years. We are confident that our collaboration will become even stronger over the years, like our activities in Salzburg,” said Harun Basturk, Senior Vice President for Europe and Head of Online Sales.
