Twin City Liner celebrates new passenger record and looks back on a successful season

May 2, 2025, marks a new milestone in the history of the Twin City Liner, the high-speed catamaran connecting Vienna and Bratislava on the Danube. On that day, an incredible 1.270 people used the service, marking the highest daily total since its launch in 2006. Central Donau, a joint venture of Wien Holding and Raiffeisenlandesbank NÖ-Wien, is delighted as the ship's owner and operator with this renewed success, which underscores the continued popularity of the service.

The most recent passenger record occurred on a sunny day, when a particularly large number of people took advantage of the sunny weather to take a trip on the fast catamaran to Bratislava or Vienna. Trips on the Twin City Liner are particularly popular during the warmer months, as they offer a fast and comfortable way to travel between the two capitals while also offering a charming perspective of the Danube and the surrounding countryside.

Kurt Gollowitzer, Managing Director of Wien Holding, expressed his delight at the development: "Well over two million passengers have traveled on the Danube with the Twin City Liner since the launch of this successful project in 2006. In 2024, we welcomed 165.000 guests on board, and last Friday we set a new daily record with 1.270 passengers, corresponding to a capacity utilization of almost 97 percent." This high figure underlines the attractiveness and efficient use of the fast catamaran's capacity.

Reinhard Karl, Deputy General Director and Head of Commercial Customers at Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien, also expressed his pride at the new record: "1.270 delighted passengers in a single day demonstrates once again how much the Twin City Liner has become a tourist magnet. The Twin City Liner is far more than a transport connection between two capitals; it has set new standards in inland waterway transport." This statement underscores the importance of the Twin City Liner not only as a means of transport, but also as a tourist highlight in the region.

Attractive promotions for the 2025 season

To further enhance the appeal of the Twin City Liner, Central Donau is once again offering a range of discounts in the 2025 season. These include "Super Tuesday" and the "Apprentice Special," each offering a 50 percent discount on the fare. "Super Tuesday" is aimed at seniors aged 60 and over, students, and those performing military or community service, while the "Apprentice Special" allows trainees and people with disabilities to travel at half price. These offers are valid throughout the season, excluding bookings in the Captain's Lounge.

There are also special offers for families and school groups. As part of the "Schools Special," school groups of 15 or more students receive a 50 percent discount during the week, with two accompanying adults traveling free. The "Family Weeks," which take place from July 7 to 13 and from October 27 to November 2, allow two children or young people up to the age of 17 accompanied by an adult to travel free of charge.

A particularly attractive offer are the limited "Red Tickets," which allow a one-way trip on the fast catamaran for just €25. This offer is aimed at budget-conscious travelers and requires prompt booking due to limited availability. It's important to note that the various discounts are not combinable and apply exclusively to the fare; port taxes and other surcharges are excluded.

Success story on the Danube continues

Since its launch in 2006, the Twin City Liner has become a fixture in regional transport and tourism. The fast and convenient connection between Vienna and Bratislava is appreciated by both commuters and tourists. Regular special offers help attract new passenger groups and further optimize the catamaran's capacity utilization. The recent passenger record underscores the continued popularity and success of this cross-border project on the Danube. The operators are optimistic about the current season and expect continued strong demand for trips on the Twin City Liner.
