The US low-cost airline Spirit Airlines has agreed with Airbus that the machines that should have been delivered from the second quarter of 2025 will not be handed over until 2030. As a “side effect” around 260 pilots will be cut.
Spirit Airlines cites the problems surrounding the Pratt & Whitney engines as the official reason. However, it can be assumed that this is also due to the fact that the carrier has been deep in the red for a long time. Around 260 pilots will have to leave the low-coster on September 1, 2024. It is not the only aviation company that currently has too many pilots. For example, United Airlines wants to make unpaid vacation palatable.
