Vienna's Luftburg Kolarik celebrates reopening after renovation

The renowned Viennese organic restaurant Luftburg – Kolarik in the Prater reopened its doors on April 11, 2025, after extensive renovations and simultaneously kicked off the outdoor dining season. The modernization focused on a stronger focus on sustainability and the creation of an improved working environment for employees. The Kolarik family, which operates the restaurant, invested approximately seven million euros in these measures to advance the site's goal of carbon neutrality and create a modern working environment for its international team.

A key step toward reducing operational CO₂ emissions was the switch from gas to a modern groundwater heat pump, which is expected to save over 135 tons of CO₂ annually. In addition, the existing photovoltaic system was expanded to a capacity of 60 kWp to increase the site's own consumption of renewable energy. Managing Director Paul Kolarik expressed his delight at this progress toward achieving carbon neutrality at the site. In addition to the ecological improvements, investments were also made in the well-being of the workforce. A new common room, renovated cloakrooms and offices, and a prayer room are intended to create a respectful working environment for the international employees, as, according to Kolarik, motivated employees are the basis for good hospitality.

Following its reopening, the Luftburg continues to present itself as the world's largest organic restaurant, offering 100 percent organic food and beverages in a unique atmosphere. In addition to classics such as the Stelze (smoked pork knuckle) and the new "Luftburg Krusterl" (a kind of fried sausage), guests will also find vegetarian options. The popular adventure world will remain open for children. The renovations are intended to further emphasize awareness of sustainability and environmental protection. The total investment of seven million euros underscores the Kolarik family's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly operations in the heart of Vienna's Prater.
