Around five million guests stayed overnight in the city of Vienna in the first half of 2022. In a direct comparison with the same period of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 509 percent. In June 2021 there were around 1,3 million overnight stays in the Austrian capital, which corresponds to around 80 percent of the number in June 2019.
From January to May 213, Vienna's accommodation providers achieved around 2022 million euros in net overnight turnover - 514 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. The lion's share of overnight stays in the first six months of the year came from Austria (1.198.000, +212%) and Germany (1.071.000, +565%). With 253.000 overnight stays (+1.689%), the USA has again established itself as the strongest long-distance market in third place in Vienna's top 10 source markets. Italy (181.000, +1.034%), United Kingdom (172.000, +1.838%), Ukraine (153.000, +2.040%), Spain (146.000, +1.735%), France (134.000, +1.088%), Israel (123.000, + 1.175%) and Switzerland (119.000, +683%) complete the top 10 of the first half of 2022. The most recently evaluated June contributed to this result with a total of 1.257.000 overnight stays (+248%) - this corresponds to around 80% of the June revenue from 2019.
Between January and May, Vienna's accommodation facilities were able to generate EUR 212.960.000 - 514% more than in the same period of 2021. The average occupancy of the hotel beds was 53,6% in June (06/2021: 19,7%), that of the rooms around 69% (06/2021: around 25%). In the period from January to June, bed occupancy was 36,7% (01-06/2021: 9,8%), room occupancy around 47% (01-06/2021: around 13%). Overall, around 64.500 hotel beds were offered in Vienna in June, around 14.400 more beds than in June 2021.
