Viennese tradition meets modern bar culture – “Room 1867” opens in the heart of the city

On the fifth floor of the historic building “Am Hof 8”, in the heart of Vienna’s city centre, a new, exclusive rooftop bar, “Room 1867”, has opened its doors.

The Private Members Club is thus expanding its already diverse offerings with an intimate and elegant meeting place that pays homage to the hotel's rich history. The name "Room 1867" is no coincidence, but rather a direct reference to the year in which Johann Kattus laid the foundation for what would become a flourishing business with his delicatessen shop on the same site. Now, "Room 1867" aims to build on this pioneering spirit and bring Viennese elegance to life in a contemporary form.

A tribute to the founder and Viennese culture of enjoyment

Johannes Kattus, who launched the private members' club "Am Hof 8" in autumn 2022, emphasizes the significance of the new bar as a tribute to the hotel's founding spirit and historical heritage. Guests are immersed in "Room 1867," a world of their own, where the blend of tradition and modernity creates a unique setting for extraordinary culinary experiences and inspiring encounters. The reinterpretation of a so-called "speakeasy bar" also underscores "Am Hof 8's" continuous commitment to innovation.

Historically inspired cocktail creations

A special highlight in "Room 1867" is the elaborate cocktail menu, which restaurant manager and host Stefan Rademacher has divided into seven chapters. These chapters are closely linked to the Kattus family history and creatively tell the story of the house's various eras and successes. The opening menu features 14 signature cocktails that transform high-quality ingredients into innovative compositions. Lovers of classic and sophisticated drinks will find, for example, the elegant "Die Staatsaffäre" with Armagnac and Amaretto or the refined "Der Diplomat" with rum, port wine, and Beerenauslese. The "Schwarze Perle" cocktail with gin, almonds, cocoa, and chocolate pays homage to the restaurant's early successes in the caviar trade. The "Flüster Box" chapter features creations such as "Der Nepomuk," named after Johann Nepomuk Kattus, who founded the house's sparkling wine production, and the mysterious "Verbotene Frucht."

Under the heading "Handelsplatz," you'll find exotic cocktails like "Karawanserei," reminiscent of the bustling activity of historic marketplaces. Progressive interpretations of classic drinks are presented under "Klassiker Rebelliert," while the "Perlenkabinett" (Rebellious Classics) offers sparkling compositions with sparkling wine and champagne. Non-alcoholic connoisseurs have also been catered for with the "Dry Society" section, which offers creative and refreshing mocktails.

Cooperation with renowned beverage distributor

A significant portion of the offering at "Room 1867" is made up of the selection of JOHANN, a respected distribution and marketing organization for premium beverage brands in Austria. This collaboration underscores the bar's commitment to presenting its guests with a select selection of high-quality spirits and beverages.

"Room 1867" is open Monday through Thursday from 16 p.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 16 p.m. to 2 a.m. Access to this special bar is reserved exclusively for "Am Hof 8" members, Golden Ticket holders, and guests by personal invitation. This underscores the character of the Private Members Club as a place of discretion and exclusivity.

“Am Hof 8” – More than just a bar

Founded in fall 2022, the private members club "Am Hof 8" sees itself as a place for encounters and exchange, inspired by international models. In addition to the new rooftop bar "Room 1867," the club offers its members and guests two restaurants, three bars, numerous conference and meeting rooms, lounges, a co-working area, a fitness center, two hotel rooms, and a nightclub.

Members also benefit from a diverse event program and partnerships with renowned members' clubs worldwide. The internationally award-winning interior design by Theresa Obermoser contributes significantly to the club's unique atmosphere. With the opening of "Room 1867," "Am Hof 8" is further demonstrating its ambition to create an exclusive and diverse offering in the heart of Vienna.
